Texas Youth Hunting Program

stalking game

The TYHP allows new hunters to hunt while having fun. TYHP hunts all day Saturday unlike other hunting programs. This allows for more time to bond and have fun. TYHP also prioritizes the mentoring and training of young hunters. Hunts for youth are often held on private property so that adults can supervise them.

TYHP is our gold standard

Since 2007, the TYHP has been a success. While TYHP focuses primarily on whitetail deer hunting, landowners permit young hunters to hunt other species. Hunting styles vary from stationary blinds, to archery. Participants can also choose between pursuing everyday species and those that are rare or exclusive. The first TYHP hunt for a pronghorn required that 10 landowners donate a permit.

TYHP is expanding its adult mentored hunting program. This program is aimed at mature hunters and has a proven track record of changing lives. Despite declining hunting license sales in recent decades and hunting advocacy organizations trying to ban hunting, TYHP’s mission and vision has not wavered. Many people are losing their connection to nature due technology and urbanization.

There are many types of hunting methods used to kill wild hogs. The most commonly used method is shooting. This requires hunters hunting to find the animal, then waiting until it comes within range. Another method is trapping. You can trap hogs by setting traps near water supplies. A trap may contain a scent lure such as peanut butter and corn meal. When the trap is sprung, the hunter shoots the trapped pig.

Another method is snaring. The pig is caught using snaring, which uses a noose out of rope. It works best if the pig is caught during its mating season.

You can also use poisoning, spearing, or netting. For a pig to stop breathing, netting or spearing involves putting a net or spear around its neck. Poisoning is done by injecting the pig with poison.

Wild hog hunters must be prepared to deal with the cold. In some areas, hunters wear snowshoes to keep warm. Some hunters bring dogs with them to help them track the animals.
